KIRKUS REVIEW

A thoughtful biography of the great navigator, much of it based on his own diaries and documents of the times. Now and again the author dramatizes the material, giving it color and human touches. Chiefly, however, he handles it somewhat unimaginatively and in rather pedantic fashion. The old legends are given their due weighing and the known facts are elaborated by inclusion of material of fairly recent discovery. Good fact book for the school and college libraries.
