This booklet aims to give practical help to lay people who participate in Protestant worship, either as members of a congregation or as leaders. The rationale, preparation, and history of worship are treated simply and briefly, and then the main elements in conventional Protestant orders of worship are commented upon and simple directions given for their use. A summary of the seasons of the Christian year and their meaning concludes the pamphlet. The author does not aim to deal with the more fundamental principles and doctrines underlying worship, nor to consider the problems arising from the use of these traditional forms in contemporary culture. The writing is simple and clear.
