AMPHIBIANS AND THEIR WAYS by H. Rucker Smyth

AMPHIBIANS AND THEIR WAYS

By

Publisher: Macmillan

Amphibians are backbond animals with a naked skin and a three-chambered heart, and frogs, toads, saiaunders and caccilians comprise the three modern groups. Since the last group is rare, and neither as interesting or as important as the other two, the author (a home naturalist) drops it from discussion. She describes, in great detail, the complete life-cycle of this form of life and one in impressed by the rituals and patterns of behavior that make their study so rewarding. Her careful observations, and enthusiasm, offset a rather matter-of-fact prose, the reader is alerted to the possibilities for duplicating Mrs. Smyth's investigations of amphibians; and a final chapter on the commercial importance to man. A non-technical introduction this generates its own interest and may stimulate home study projects, etc.
