Yet another (British this time) tribute to Plum at the Pinnacle -- a snatch of biography (the War calumny is dismissed early on), a volley of those astonishing output statistics, a spot of analysis, and the predictable portrait of the Wodehouses sipping sherry at their Remsenburg, L.I., residence as evening shadows lengthen over the garden. There is a rather bucking section for buffs dealing with the evolution of the Psmiths, Threepwoods, Mulliners, etc. who roll on down through the backlists; not to mention an early Jeevesian manifestation -- his voice was ""like old tawny port made audible."" Of course there are the inevitable quotes which send one back to the Source: ""Into the face of the young man. . .there had crept a look of furtive shame, the shifty hangdog look which announces that an Englishman is about to speak French."" A pleasant -- if extraneous -- celebration, to be festooned with 26 photograph-pages of P. G. and relevant bric-a-brac.
