HEAD OF THE LINE

A collection of short stories, most of them contemporary without being current. There is no particular lag to attach -- no label to designate them. They are wholesome stories of the woman's magazine type, and I felt that Miss Carroll was at her best in her stories of maturity and old age. The two I felt characteristic of the group (for sampling) are Shall We Dance, Mrs. Trumbull? (an adventure in living when an old maid school teacher steals a few days vacation alone in New York) and A Man's Mother (in which old age throws off the chains.)
