PROPHETIC VOICES OF THE BIBLE

This book is based on the author's ""Frontiers of Faith"" television series (NBC) and comprises biographical and popularly critical ""profiles"" of eleven ""of the Bible's spiritual pioneers: Elijah, Amos, Hosea, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Isiah (""the second"",) Job, Jonah, Daniel, and John. The book is, at least superficially, what one would expect it to be from its origins: facile, sometimes overly dramatic, glossing over difficulties and ignoring variant interpretations. Yet, it does what it sets out to do; it explains, interestingly and colorfully what the prophets were, who they were, why they said what they did, and what is the meaning of what they said. And it does it in such a way that even the layman without any real interest in the Bible will find the book a stimulating exercise in speculative popularization. The real audience for the book, however, is the theologically unsophisticated Christian, the Sunday School student, and the minister who is looking for a way to interest his congregation in the Bible. For these, Prophetic Voices will be a lode of accurate, clear, readable and relevant information.
