If this doesn't send its readers scurrying to the Caribbean or the Kimberly Diamond mines, it will, at least, open new vistas in the backyard, the attic or the local museum. For it is an excitingly written book about treasure- in the historic, artistic, modern economic, and, natch, the piratic senses. A variety of chapters-on topics from antiques to the discovery of the Mesabi iron range and raising old ships, successfully debunk romanticism and put effort and interest in its stead. Lots of fun.
