Fascinating, illuminating and important. Professor Luccock of Yale, is both brilliant and modest, a natural preacher. He probably doesn't realize how apt this title really is, for in spite of his feeling that American Mirror is too presumptious, his book does perfectly reflect the past decade. He paints the picture so that each incident is vividly alive, yet with the passing panorama we see the implications and the effect of it all upon life and literature today. It is rather enlightening to discover the way it all works -- the times influencing literature. literature influencing people and so on. Get it on to your important non-fiction table. It's good!
