Duke was a strong police dog with a sharp eye for guarding Peter's home -- but little stomach for venturing beyond it. When one day Peter's wanderlust overtakes him, he locks Duke in the celler and takes off for parts unknown. Before long Peter is hopelessly lost, but Duke's strength and cunning save the day as police dog plays retriever of lost little boys. The moral of this story is never to venture forth without your dog a wise edict for five year olds, but to be taken with flexibility by older adventurers.
