Virtually a report on four years of Federal Theatre, written by the person who was its very breath of life. Rather soberly she recounts the inauguration of the idea, the set up, the regional significance, the types of work done, the development of talent (in the production end rather than the acting end) And then the infiltration of various problems, personnel, racial, political, internal and external -- and the investigation which brought the closing down. A defense, without being an attempt at controversy. And a record of a constructive and creative job.
