Miss Sarver does not quite come to terms with her central theme. Is it a mother and daughter at cross purposes, the mother, a widow and successful florist, trying to keep her daughter, Peggy, from making her father's ""mistake"" and becoming a teacher? Or is it Peggy's rebellion, after two years of struggle attempting to master business administration -- and her belated realization that business is not for her, and that she may find herself, apron strings cut, by taking a post as a provisional elementary school teacher in a remote town? The two themes never quite integrate, and- with rare exceptions- there are few scenes where the characters become real persons.
