KIRKUS REVIEW

Hare may not have learned his lesson in his race with the tortoise, but for everyone else his second go-round--in a match with mole whose underground progress is marked off across the bottoms of the pages--will be entirely superfluous. The all too cute animals perform against backgrounds daubed with Hallmark colors and touched with the sentimental surrealism European illustrators so often affect. Even Hare's carefree turn about of the competitive ethic (""You scratched and scraped, but I really had some fun"") won't help readers who'll find his progress more frenzied than ebullient.
