SON OF COLUMBUS by Hans Baumann

SON OF COLUMBUS

By

Publisher: Oxford

Although this erudite chronicle of the fourth voyage of Columbus has passages which suggest a brilliant original narrative, the translation is uneven in interest and clarity. Probably because of the restrictions and disparity between the German and English, confusion hampers the reader in following the voyage of Fernan, second son of Columbus, Admiral of the Seas, as he went with his father in four leaky tubs, the Utopia, Belladama, Esperanza and Mecedora hopeful of finding the water route to Cathay. Instead they added the locations of Caribbean islands and the Panamanian coast to navigation maps.
