THE GUILT OF THE GERMAN ARMY

A book which covers much of the material of Herbert Rosinski's The German Army (1940), but which is a more fully developed and documented study of the German professional militarists who eventually merged their power with Hitler to create a worldwide Armageddon in a world that wanted peace. Opening in 1918 with the German officer class unwilling to admit defeat, we find them, though a non political body, contributing their ideas, methods, and instruction to the National Socialist party. The growth of fascism (which is essentially militaristic), the new types of soldiers it brought with it (shock troopers, Free Corps, S S), and eventually the fusion of the old Prussian officer class with Hitler's partisans, since for survival they must needs become ""soldiers of the Fuhrer"". Interdependent, one with the other, each indispensable, new and old finally made up the formidable war machine of today. Scholarly, but compensatory, evaluation.
