A FOAL IS BORN

The soaking wet, bewildered looking foal waking to the light and struggling free of his glistening birth sac is a fascinatingly beautiful sight. Even children who've seen how A Calf is Born (1975) won't want to miss it; however, this birthing-with visual suspense centering on the foal's first try at controlling his spindly legs, and an emphasis on emotional over physical nurturing--seems geared to slightly less sophisticated youngsters. By any standards, Anders' clean-cut, personable photographs are a blessed event.
