Man and land -- and the always interesting struggle to build a home, make a living. In Washington the author found his property and there encountered tough problems that have kept him stepping the last twenty five years. There always trees and stumps to dynamite, there was water and electricity to acquire, there were two houses to build, cows and crops to experiment with, there was the losing battle with a lawn, there were chickens, coyotes, skunks, berries and fruits, bees, horses and tractors, the dogs...all combined with neighbors, helpers, friends to make the period personally exciting and worthwhile. Very pleasant.
