This is an Instruction Manual on the nature and obligations of Catholic marriage and parenthood, which the author recommends can be given by the parish priest to be studied by prospective brides and grooms. It is not lengthy, yet it is fairly comprehensive in its treatment, explaining with absolute clarity the nature of marriage and the dignity of it as a Christian sacrament, the mutual obligations of husband and wife, and the duties of parents towards their children in the light of Catholic faith and moral teaching. Psychological and physical matters are handled wherever necessary with no taint of false supernaturalism or puritanical prejudices against love or sexual pleasure. The Church's position on birth control is made clear, together with the reasons for its prohibition. At the same time her often misunderstood position with regard to the duty of procreation and her approval of the rhythm method are also set forth in unmistakable language. The duty of parents to give their children proper sex instruction when they need it is stressed in the section dealing with the duties of parents. Every prospective Catholic bride and groom should be acquainted with all of the material included in this book. Accordingly, because of its clarity and rational method of presentation, it is recommendable to all, married and unmarried alike, who are in need of the information it contains.
