The extravagant body language of Berson's latest leaper and flailer is confined to a city apartment, and the usual fresh air clarity is gone from his palette too--though these less pristine colors do give a kind of sugar cake elegance to the row houses in Steve Rabbit's neighborhood. And young Steve, so bored and restless that he throws his favorite toy in the garbage can, does make a dashing picture in his striped shirt, cap and extra long blue scarf as he storms and kicks wildly through the house. But there is so little verve to the story, wherein Steve comes to appreciate his things when his friend Pack Rat appropriates the airplane in the garbage can, that the rampaging rabbit's temperamental display seems doubly overblown.
