Ably written story of the last great longhorn drives up from Texas to the promised grazing lands. His Uncle John takes Sid Lovell out of school to do a man's work on the long, anxious, exciting trail. The family is divided on the question of free range versus fences. There's some romance, but this supplies the real issue. Sincere, warm writing, with a strong sense of the country and the people and the pangs of a country's growing pains toward civilization.
