KIRKUS REVIEW

For the age level of about the fifth to the eighth grade, a well stocked and neatly divided book of plays, poems and group readings for school year holidays. All of the plays have mixed casts and can be simply set and the readings are for boys and girls to do together. Starting with Columbus Day and finishing with graduation there are two or more one-act plays for each occasion- ""The Weaver's Son"" is about Columbus at the age of fourteen; a flashback to 1787 and the words of Thomas Paine make a play to point up the workability of the United Nations. Readings and recitations are on similar themes. Some of the pieces have been reprinted from childrens' magazines and some of the notable sections are United Nations Week, Book Week and group readings for all the seasons.
