ESSAYS IN TEACHING by Harold- Ed Taylor

ESSAYS IN TEACHING

By

Publisher: Harper

A collection of essays by specialists in the field of the liberal arts who have taught at one time at Sarah Lawrence College and have reached conclusions concerning the value and practice of college teaching. In the Preface and the first essay by the president, Harold Taylor, the subject is investigated and the ideals tentatively stated. The emphasis throughout is placed on the college as an integral factor of the community, supplying, first of all, an answer to the student's needs in the contemporary situation -- economic, political, social, psychological -- in which he finds himself. Among the essayists who discuss the teaching of literature, philosophy, psychology, history, art, music etc. -- Horace Gregory, Helen Merrel Lynd, Rudolf Arnheim, Stephen Spender and others. A vital, exhilarating book, but limited market.
