THE NATURAL WORLD OF SAN FRANCISCO

A few aspects of nature in San Francisco receive appreciative attention here in a book which is undistinguished in style or range but may appeal to some natives. Harold Gilliam wanders south of Fleishhacker Zoo, on the Franciscan Rocks, describes the city's faults (geologically speaking) and moving dunes, ponders the mystery of the great bar as he discusses the land and waters of S.F. Then there are the trees--Eucalyptus and raintrees; the parks (Golden Gate Park in ""the city's greatest work of art""); the wildlife (mainly birds, from robin to gull); the sky, particularly in summer when the fog rolls in, an awesome sight. That's about it.
