KIRKUS REVIEW

An exceedingly thorough volume that introduces professional principles of landscape design in terms available to amateurs in possession of larger-than-average grounds. Much more than a handbook, it includes unusually detailed strategies for deciding which broadleaf tree is appropriate for the terrain, nine ""critical"" design factors, and considerable information on what to plant: broadleaf and coniferous trees and shrubs; perennials, annuals, and bulbs; vegetables and herbs. Although intended for home gardens, it's just as relevant for larger areas--civic centers, public parks, etc.--that can manage the substantial upkeep. A diligent, extensive, and precise reference.
