KIRKUS REVIEW

This is a useful reference book with plenty of good reading matter as well. A one volume dictionary of sports and games, in which each sport is treated from the angle of source, history, developments, leading figures, the spirit and the rules. It covers a wide range: badminton, basketball, bowling, boxing, football (both kinds), golf, handball, hockey, soft ball, swimming and diving, tennis, track and field, volleyball and wrestling, Field hockey, pingpong, soccer and lacrosse are the only games generally played which seem to be omitted. Coaching points are illustrated with anecdotes which help point the lesson.
