A HISTORY OF SPAIN by Harold Livermore

A HISTORY OF SPAIN

By

Pub Date: May 17th, 1959
Publisher: Farrar, Straus & Cudahy

This one volume history, by a British professor and scholar, covers the main events in Spain from the Tertiary epoch to Franco. A huge amount of factual material is presented in a precise, easy-going, unemotional style, and this plus the accurate index and nine full-page maps makes for a useful and much needed work of reference. The author adopts the slightly old-fashioned year-by-year, battle-by-battle technique, and anyone looking for deep intuitions or broad interpretations of the more impalpable undercurrents of history will be disappointed. Taking it on its own terms, it is strict, clear, and reliable, and a good addition to the same publisher's companion histories of France and England.
