THE KITCHEN-WINDOW SQUIRREL

A friendly little story over-streaked with color. Davy tries everything to chase the squirrel from the window-sill bird feeder but it's not until he shoots a dart (and misses). . . that the squirrel disappears. He's done it, Davy thinks, but he's not glad for long, and rejoices when the squirrel reappears--with her young: ""With all these mouths to feed, I guess we'll just have to get more birdseed."" If the text is jaunty, the illustrations could be called jaundiced: there are spots and splotches and stripes of yellow-orange-russet everywhere. And since the figures are curiously dwarfed to begin with, it doesn't look much like home.
