KIRKUS REVIEW

Here has been brought together a series of papers originally given at three ""Schools of Worship"" of the Episcopal Diocese of New York. Basically this book deals with the Christian sacraments, and is exposition combined with exhortation to live the sacramental life. Baptism, Confirmation, Holy Communion, Penance and Absolution, Unction, Holy Matrimony, Holy Orders--all receive clarifying treatment which willcommend them to the average layman as both proper and desirable. They are written by some of the most able priests of the Episcopal Church,-Thomas Barrett, John B. Coburn, Leelie Long, John Large, Cyril Richardson, Edward West and Samuel Wylie. The scholarship is sound but not obtrusive, and the piety is not oppressive. This volume should prove of special interest and value to those who are preparing for confirmation in the Episcopal Church, whose sacramental way of life it so well describes.
