THE LOW-CARBOHYDRATE GOURMET: A Cookbook for Hungry Dieters

The low-carbohydrate (count grams, not calories, although both are given here) regimen is a sibling of Dr. Atkins -- without, as yet, the frown of medical disapproval -- and also of the Drinking Man's Diet. This cookbook services all three and not only hungry dieters, but good eaters. After opening suggestions on ingredients (Sweet Magic the favored sweetener), the first third -- Brownlee's personal triumph -- consists of desserts of all kinds -- cakes, pies, mousses, ice creams on to a few breads (only soy flour is permitted), meats, appetizers, fish, vegetables, eggs, etc., with a closing section on Chinese recipes and one on Various sauces and salad dressings. The appendix lists foods with minimum grams (60 per diem is the magic number) and the best recommendation is that you could serve almost all of these dishes to anyone you entertain and he will feel indulged rather than deprived.
