THE MYSTERY OF LONESOME MANOR

Winter in the farm country of French Canada provides the chilling atmosphere for a mystery in which Alouette Robinette discovers the secret of the dark mansion atop a neighboring hill. On her visits to its inhabitants, Mamselle and Nana, Alouette learns of Cousin Jacques who had gone astray in the north woods and never returned. With the help of Grandmere and the northern traveler, Alouette and her sister solve the problems of their new friends by unearthing ownership documents and valuable treasure from the old house and in helping to effect a reunion between lost Cousin Jacques and the ladies of Lonesome Manor. Routine aspects of a juvenile mystery are offset by the lively picture of winter in the wilds of northern Canada.
