HAND WEAVING

Clearly and interestingly written, helpfully illustrated and widely informative, this is a ""how to"" book that is at once practical and deeply appreciative of the art it describes. The loom and its parts, threads, an imaginative chapter on color, different weaving techniques such as Rya, Soumak, Danish Medallion, Spanish Lace, the growth and processing of different fibers into yarn --these are some of the thoroughly discussed elements in the book. The explanatory chapters are suffixed by a brief history of weaving that is worthy in its naturalistic approach of the complexities, varieties and beauties in the cultural and economic development of the ancient art. Written so that it can be read through for pleasure and returned to for practice, this is a treat for the potential treadle peddler.
