Adam was a young English sheepdog. Miss Fothergill was an old New England lady... These two had many tastes in common. They both liked to play ball with a small rubber ball, and bones with a large rubber bone..."" These are the two main characters, these are the opening lines, and that's the vein in which the story continues. It's an inert, soporific collection of anecdotes about the ""cute"" antics of the dog, later two dogs (you'll never guess what her name is) and their befuddled, elderly mistress. Could anyone possibly care?
