REDISCOVERING SOUTH AMERICA

This seasoned traveler returns after some thirty years to the countries of South America and presents a leisurely, personal account of travel for travel's sake, with enough of a mixture of past and present, history, politics, current trends, social and economic life, North American relations, to make this more than a guide book, and with enough of intimate details of family travel to keep it very human. Taking his wife and ten year old son, Pete, who had an appendectomy before they reached their first port, was hospitalized in Panama, and suffered the results of the operation throughout the trip -- and later -- the three of them use all available means of travel, separate and meet, and thoroughly enjoy a grand scale tour. And there's plenty, for the armchair tourist, of places, lakes, mountains, highways and byways, people in the South American news, foreign impenetration, etc., etc., to sustain this author's popularity.
