A number of high spots in these episodes in the life of a boomer (an itinerant telegraph operator) which emphasize railroad life, and railroad men, in sympathetic, appreciative manner. Young Eddie Sand, smart, resourceful, with a knowledge of handling traffic and experience that surpasses his superiors and seniors, refuses to settle long enough for certain promotion that the railroad ""brass hats"" are anxious to give him, wanders from one section of the country to another, always sure of a job as ""brass pounder"" with any railroad, and is the deus ex machina, and modest hero of the many good stories that result from his wanderlust. But dull moments blur the bright ones.
