THE BOOK OF THE NAVY

A collection, from original documents, reports, manuscripts, diaries, etc., from officers and seamen, expert commentators, that traces the Navy's history through its exploits. From the first Commander in Chief, Hopkins, to deeds of this war, this is a panorama of heroes, action, peacetime missions, Navy tradition, and the development of Naval warfare. There is poetry and there are chanteys and songs, as well, there are stories of piracy, scientific expeditions, submarines and airplanes; there are wellknown and little known actions. The roster of illustrious names is long -- Jones, Deocatur, Perry, Farragut, Byrd, Peary, Mahan, among others,-and highlights the impressive ga of maritime history.
