THE DELAWARE

The Rivers series marches on -- or should we say flows on. They are in general of high grade and suprising individuality. Some are anecdotal, purely regional, some very personal in the sense of exploration, some primarily historical. It is to this class that The Delaware seems to belong, though the spirit of the river itself forms a connecting thread throughout. The Delaware Valley goes through rather fully populated country, town and city, rich in tradition and history, closely linked with the early days of our Colonial and Revolutionary history. Most people, the country over, have some link with some part of the Delaware, and the early history of Delaware, of New Jersey, of Pennsylvania, to Easton and there-abouts is full of interest and significance. Through years when strife was paramount, this section, often torn and bloody, was still tempered by the Quaker heritage and beliefs. And the conservatism of the present has roots deep in the past.
