TODAY'S NEUROTIC FAMILY by Harry F. Tashman

TODAY'S NEUROTIC FAMILY

By

Publisher: New York University Press

From Freud's stress on the sexual origins of neurosis, to later schools which shifted to the larger, cultural influences, Dr. Tashman contends that it is the ""neurotic family which produces neurotic children who in turn produce neurotic families"". His man argument is much easier to accept than this presentation of it (his professional rodomontade) or his development which runs to some ridiculous extremes. His main demonstration of the neurotic family is one in which there is a dominant figure, with whom there can be no common grounds of mutuality, but also be explores the sexual elements of life at its conception; the fantasies, realities, threats of infancy; the psychic and symbolic desexualization at a later period- And his second section, which is based on his casework, illustrates various drives and distortions..... Arguable, and on occasion outrageously unreasonable.
