Dr. Levinson is a professor at Harvard and a consultant to industry and this is the second (Emotional Health in the World of Work-1964) of his reasonable seminars for the escalating executive. Or the man who has reached the top in middle age and needs some regenerative redirection (whether via community responsibilities or philanthropic enterprises). Most of this is standard psychology applied with some of the newer industrial findings re working motivations and gratifications (one chapter on women); on the incapacitating feelings, fear, anger, self-doubt, which may be exacerbated on the job; on the upward climb for some, while others may be bypassed or stranded; on handling the ""bright young men"" and new breed of scientists -- the former are not likely to be attracted by business; on the company image and ideals...... Dr. Levinson's stress is gratifyingly free of the homiletic heartburn of the genre and this is sound, remedial guidance although it omits altogether factors of another kind which may lead to current difficulties (overload; declining availability of service(s); etc.) on the job at any level.
