THE TROUBLED MIND

This is not a popular study, but a fairly thorough-going probing of mental deviations, normal and abnormal. The unconscious, complexes, conflicts, sublimation, habit and education, psycho-analysis (in which he deals only with the Freudian and debunks the extremist Freudian technique), rationalization and disassociation, neuroses, psychoses -- and their treatments. The close of the book, written by Margaret Nelson Jackson, deals with acute forms of mental unbalance and their treatment. The remedy advocated by both is psycho-therapy -- a controversial conclusion from many angles. This is not a book for the uninitiated -- hard sledding for the layman.
