KIRKUS REVIEW

A story of the Dakota Black Hills after the Civil War, faintly in the Cooper tradition, or -- more recently --reminiscent of Edna Ferber's Cimarron. The historical background in the picture of the country and the times, in the problems of an Easterner confronted with the set up of an Agency to Indian Territory, of Custer's last stand, make this several notches above the average ""Western"" and should give it a sales value as well as rental.
