The Growth of an American Artist

Fifth in the series of native artists, this is the autobiography of illustrator, who tells in hearty fashion of the metamorphosis of himself . From a boyhood in (Stryker), through discoveries of music, of art, of people. Ways, of earning a living and lessons, and the birth of his ideas and principles. A Sugge Fellowship gave him some repose; his interest in sculpture has a chance to develop. Nice feeling in the handling of this story -- and excellent presentation of his work, with explanations of the purpose, problem, execution, together with his formulated ideas on art.
