Kinds of model trains are first discussed, the meaning of terms (such as gauge, scale, tin plate, etc.) and identification of types of locamotives and cars. Then comes an extensive discussion of power, what makes the engine run, the building of a power pack, step by step, the types of track and how to lay them, track wiring and layout. Available space must be considered in planning the foundation, the inclusion of scenery, buildings, and so on. Making of locomotives and cars to add to rolling stock is suggested and the use of a kit is advised.
