KIRKUS REVIEW

A boon to any beginning philatelist lays out first steps in stamp collecting with the efficient zest that has marked this author's other how-to books (see Ceramics, Let's Go Boating etc.). The simply and logically arranged chapters include material on the history of postal systems and early stamp issues, types of stamps and their purposes (from publicity to the over all function as a source of revenue), starting a collection, albums and their preparation, stamp catalogues and the types of collections that can vary all the way from concentration on one country to concentration on one stamp (the later being reserved for more advanced devotees:). In the appendices there is information about stamp names and overprints, a world identification table and a glossary.
