One of the most difficult of subjects on the vocational level is approached with understanding and conviction that service to God is the highest calling. Without unctuous piety, Hartzell Spence, himself son of a minister, has analyzed what a minister should be like and what he does. He has livened his practical approach with good stories of men who have succeeded in their respective fields-whether Catholic, Protestant or Jewish, men whose lives have been adventure and dedication. He has provided sufficient straightforward and varied data to give background for self-searching, both before deciding to study for the ministry and during the process of study. He has opened many doors -- showing how many channels other those generally accepted- the profession affords. He has even discussed the role of women as ""clergywoman"". While most of the information relates to the Protestant clergy, certain sections are devoted to the rabbinate and the priesthood. For the sake of an important book, we hope the finished text will catch some of the errors in terminology and even in fact.
