FROM ROUSSEAU TO PROUST

A much needed survey of French literature ""from Rousseau to Proust"" -- with the emphasis on the contribution to literature rather than on the men themselves, except in so far as the psychological aspects affect their work. A thorough background knowledge of the panorama of French literature, the cross currents and conflicting influences is evidenced throughout. Interestingly handled and a good foundation book for anyone interested in the subject.
