From the general to the particular, in a study of the part logistics has played in wars. He has taken specific battles and selected campaigns, with his objective, the showing that the side with sufficient supplies is the successful side. The illustrations are in chronological order:- the American Revolution, and the New Jersey campaign and the Battle of Saratoga; the Napoleonic Wars, with the Iberian Peninsula campaign and the March to Moscow; the Civil War, with defeat inevitable for the South, the Battle of the Nile in the Sudan campaign; the Second World War, where the Normandy campaign was won with gas pipelines, breakwaters, and the Red Ball Express. The weakness lies in the emphasis on logistics as the be-all and end-all, and the omission of other contributing factors which had bearing on the cases cited. Specialized.
