FRENCH CANADA

By

Pub Date: July 29th, 1938
Publisher: Viking

The title is misleading, as the content deals with Quebec and its immediate surroundings, and passes over other sections of French Canada. Its value would lie primarily in interest for children who are expecting to visit that part of Canada, or as supplementary reading for geography. Frankly, I cannot see much general interest outside these two groups, as there is no pretense of story content, nor even of continued historical or biographical or geographical content. Each item is taken as a unit, and handled succinctly, in interesting manner, but leaving a somewhat encyclopedic method impression. However, the exquisite illustrations in soft color, with something of a Boutet de Monvel quality, make it an unusual and very beautiful book, which may put it in the gift book class.
