THE STORY OF MAD ANTHONY WAYNE

By

Publisher: Grosset & Dunlap

By the author of the Herbert stories (Knopf) and another Signature Book, The Story of Lafayette- a faithful following, and laudatory, of ""Mad"" Anthony's life and campaigns. From his ambitious soldier boyhood we see him growing, straight and true as an arrow, towards an army career, and so it is no surprise when he's placed in command of the Pennsylvanians in '75. A black spot, the Massacre of Pao, he blames himself for. Then a decade after Yorktown there is more glory as he subdues the Ohio Indians and engineers the Treaty of Greenville. During all this we wonder a little about what other people and nations were thinking and doing, but overcome with the effulgence of Wayne's heroism, it's hard to tell.
