Dave, 12, Betsy, 11, and Dicky, 4, comes to Pine Island, in Casco Bay, for a summer and learn how vastly Maine differs from their native state of Colorado. Dave and Betsy learn to row a punt, to understand the Maine fishing people, they see a shipwreck, rescue a monkey, and generally broaden their horizons as to another way of life. Their neighbor Bert, a lobsterman and carpenter, provides some astringent education for both of them, while their parents add a helpful touch or two. Pretty normal kids -- bickering and getting in trouble -- following an established summer pattern -- in a modest, everyday story.
