KIRKUS REVIEW

Good Walpolian atmosphere and Sayres' appeal, with Reggie Fortune deus ex machina in happenings occurring around an English cathedral. The dead body of a criminal is linked closely to the cathedral. Fortune is thwarted by Dean, Bishop and Canon in his attempts to unearth the cathedral's mystery, but he finally traces the source of the troubles, brings things to a climax and traps the perpetrators.
