KIRKUS REVIEW

The impassive, imperturbable investigation of John Bent into the seemingly natural death of an old client and a previous murder in the family from which the killer had been exonerated. A last death closes the case for the police- but not for Bent who witnesses the confession of the killer but needs to impose no retribution. . . A skillful, satisfying job.
